Being Called Higher by God at the ICMC US West

ICMC West 2011

Before the days of modern navigational aids a traveler made the Atlantic crossing in a boat equipped with two compasses. One was fixed to the deck where the man at the wheel could see it. The other compass was fastened up on one of the masts, and often a sailor would be seen climbing up to inspect it.

The passenger asked the captain, “Why do you have two compasses?”

“This is an iron vessel,” replied the captain, “and the compass on the deck is often affected by its surroundings. Such is not the case with the compass at the masthead; that one is above the influence. We steer by the compass above.”

The same needs to be said of us! The compass we use to guide our lives is God's word and His Holy Spirit. If we don't rely on God as our guide the things of life will weigh us down and mess us up. No other place is this as obvious to see as on college campuses. The world and its desires pull at us and if we are not careful, it will dim our faith and convictions. The Colorado Campus Ministries hosted an incredible campus retreat this month titled the “Call of Duty”. We were joined by students from New Mexico and Idaho as we focused on seeing the ways evil and the evil one can attack us. We also looked at God’s call for us to live in his light, and took the “Call of Duty” to reach people with the Good news of Jesus. It has been inspiring to see the way God has been moving in the Campus and the lives He is changing.

I am amazed at the faith, love and zeal for God in our students. It is such an honor to work with young men and women who want to change the world one soul at a time; being guided from above. Over a 1000 such students will gather from all over the Western United states this July for the 2011 US West ICMC. There is nothing like a conference where we can come together and focus on God and our relationships. It will be amazing to get away from the struggles, influences and things that affect us and just focus on being called Higher by God.

Isaiah 55:9–11, says it perfectly.

“As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.” (NIV)

Join us from July 28 – July 31, 2011 and be taken higher by God and his timeless word. Details and registration are available at www.hereamisendme.net. See you soon!
